Le Prix du livre Wilson de 2024 est décerné au livre qui, selon nous, offre la meilleure exploration en histoire canadienne qui est accessible à un public étendu et transnational. Le gagnant l’an dernier fut Julien Mauduit, La guerre d’indépendance des Canadas : Démocratie, républicanismes et libéralismes en Amérique du Nord (Montréal and Kingston: McGill-Queen’s University Press, 2022).

Nous félicitons Peace d’avoir publié un livre qui est fondé sur une recherche rigoureuse dans de nombreuses sources et qui soulève des questions fondamentales sur le projet des États canadiens en Amérique du Nord.

The Wilson Book prize is presented to the author of the book which, in the Institute’s view, best explores Canadian history from a transnational perspective and in a fresh and accessible way. Last year’s winner was Julien Mauduit, for his La guerre d’indépendance des Canadas : Démocratie, républicanismes et libéralismes en Amérique du Nord (Montréal and Kingston: McGill-Queen’s University Press, 2022).

After months of deliberation and a vote, the Associates of the Wilson Institute have selected
Thomas Peace, The Slow Rush of Colonization: Spaces of Power in the Maritime Peninsula, 1680-1790 for the Wilson Book Prize in 2024. We congratulate Dr. Peace for having published a rigorously researched book based on many fresh sources, and for having raised fundamental questions about the relations of Indigenous peoples and colonizers in eastern North America, with direct implications for our understanding of the subsequent emergence of state institutions in both Canada and the US.
