In episode 5 of our Wilson Institute Speaker Series, Self-Isolation Edition, it is my pleasure to talk to M. Max Hamon about his 2019 Wilson Book Prize winning The Audacity of his Enterprise: Louis Riel and the Métis Nation that Canada Never Was. His book tells the story of Louis Riel and the Red River Resistance of 1869 and the Northwest Resistance of 1885, arguing that Riel and his allies played a major role in state-making. We talk about everything from Louis Riel, to his many worlds, to doing transnational history in Canada, to our children going back to school!
